Ingredients

For the Pizza Base
  • 1 lb Refrigerated pizza dough store-bought or homemade
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
For the Taco Meat
  • 1 lb Lean ground beef
  • 1 packet Taco seasoning mix 1 oz
  • 1/4 cup Water
For the Pizza Toppings
  • 1/2 cup Refried beans optional, for base
  • 1/2 cup Salsa mild or medium
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese shredded
  • 2 cups Iceberg lettuce shredded
  • 2 Roma tomatoes diced
  • 1/4 cup Red onion finely diced
  • 1/2 cup Black olives sliced
  • 1/2 cup Sour cream or Greek yogurt for drizzling
  • 5 oz Doritos Nacho Cheese flavored tortilla chips crushed

Equipment

  • Large pizza pan (12-14 inch)
  • Large Skillet
  • Mixing bowls
  • Food processor or large zip-top bag

Method

Prepare Ingredients
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 12-14 inch pizza pan with a little olive oil or cooking spray. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat with the oven.
  2. Using a food processor or by placing them in a large zip-top bag and crushing with a rolling pin, finely crush the Nacho Cheese Doritos until they resemble coarse crumbs. Set aside.
Cook Taco Meat
  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Stir in the taco seasoning and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the liquid has mostly evaporated and the meat is well coated with seasoning. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Pizza
  1. On your prepared pizza pan, stretch or roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness. Brush the edges with 1 tablespoon of olive oil for a golden crust.
  2. If using, spread the refried beans evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Then, spread the salsa over the refried beans (or directly on the dough if skipping beans).
  3. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses over the salsa.
  4. Evenly spoon the cooked taco meat over the cheese layer. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses.
Bake and Finish
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. The exact baking time may vary based on your oven and dough thickness.
  2. Carefully remove the pizza from the oven. Immediately sprinkle with shredded lettuce, diced Roma tomatoes, finely diced red onion, and sliced black olives.
  3. Drizzle generously with sour cream or Greek yogurt in a zig-zag pattern across the pizza. Finally, sprinkle the crushed Doritos over the entire pizza.
  4. Slice into 8 pieces and serve immediately while hot for maximum crunch and flavor!

Notes

Feel free to customize your taco pizza with your favorite taco toppings! Other great additions include sliced jalapeños for a kick, corn, or a drizzle of hot sauce. You can experiment with different Dorito flavors too, like Spicy Sweet Chili or Cool Ranch, for a unique twist. For best results, add the fresh toppings and Doritos *after* baking to maintain their texture and freshness.
