Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut it into squares, about 4x4 inches.
- In a bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square. Top with sliced strawberries.
- Gently fold two opposite corners of the pastry squares toward the center over the filling, leaving the other two corners open.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the folded pastries.
- Arrange the danishes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
For best results, keep the pastry cold while working; excess filling can overflow, so don’t overfill pastries. Experiment with flavors by adding lemon zest or cardamom.
