  • 2 cups All-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour blend.
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder Use unsweetened for best results.
  • 1 tablespoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Can substitute with milk + vinegar.
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil Can replace with melted coconut oil.
  • 2 large Eggs Can substitute with a chia or flaxseed egg for a vegan option.
  • 1 tablespoon Red food coloring Or use beet juice for a natural alternative.
Cream Cheese Glaze Ingredients
  • 4 ounces Cream cheese
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Or as needed for consistency.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix together the sugar, buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and red food coloring until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Glazing
  1. While the donuts cool, whip together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  2. Once the donuts are cool, dip the tops in the cream cheese glaze or drizzle it on.

Notes

To enjoy these donuts warm, place frozen donuts in the microwave for 15-20 seconds or warm them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C).
