Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 1 box Red Velvet Cake Mix You can use any brand or a homemade recipe.
  • 2 large Eggs Can substitute with applesauce or flaxseed meal for a vegan option.
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil Can be replaced with melted coconut oil.
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Mix milk with a splash of vinegar as a substitute if needed.
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup Cream Cheese Frosting Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1/2 cup Crushed Pecans or Walnuts Optional for garnish.

Method

Baking
  1. Preheat your oven as per the cake mix instructions.
  2. Prepare your cake batter by mixing the cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and buttermilk until just combined.
  3. Pour into a greased cake pan and bake until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cooling and Crumbling
  1. Once the cake is done, allow it to cool in the pan for a few minutes.
  2. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely before crumbling into small pieces.
Frosting Preparation
  1. If making homemade cream cheese frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until creamy, adding a dash of vanilla for extra flavor if desired.
Layering
  1. Start layering in the jar with a handful of cake crumbs, followed by a generous dollop of cream cheese frosting.
  2. Repeat the layers until the jar is filled, ending with frosting on top.
Garnishing and Serving
  1. If desired, sprinkle crushed nuts on top of the frosting.
  2. Place the jars in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use jars with wide mouths for easier layering and eating. Don't overmix the batter for a lighter cake. Store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
