  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
Frosting Ingredients
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 stick unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • as needed Milk to achieve desired consistency

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients, and mix well. Stir in the boiling water until everything is combined.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before moving them to wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting
  1. In another bowl, beat together peanut butter and softened butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until smooth. Add milk as needed to achieve the desired frosting consistency.
Assembly
  1. Once the cake layers are totally cool, spread peanut butter frosting between the layers and on top of the cake.
