Ingredients
  

For the Chocolate Base
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
For the Meringue Topping
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar Can substitute with lemon juice or vinegar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until set.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Spread the meringue over the baked chocolate layer.
  5. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool, cut into bars, and serve.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for about a week. Let come to room temperature before serving if refrigerated.
