Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking pan.
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Baking
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until set.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the meringue over the baked chocolate layer.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the meringue is golden brown.
- Allow to cool, cut into bars, and serve.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or refrigerate for about a week. Let come to room temperature before serving if refrigerated.
