Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Rolled oats old-fashioned, not instant
  • 1/2 cup Plain kefir full-fat or low-fat
  • 1 tbsp Chia seeds
  • 1-2 tsp Maple syrup or honey adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup Fresh berries or sliced fruit optional, for topping
  • 1 tbsp Chopped nuts or seeds optional, for topping (e.g., almonds, walnuts, flax seeds)

Equipment

  • Mason Jar (12-16 oz) with lid
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Spoon for stirring

Method

  1. In a 12-16 oz mason jar or a similar container with a tight-fitting lid, combine the rolled oats, plain kefir, chia seeds, and maple syrup (or honey).
  2. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined and the chia seeds are evenly distributed. Ensure there are no dry clumps of oats or chia seeds stuck at the bottom.
  3. Cover the jar tightly with its lid and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the oats to soften and the mixture to thicken into a creamy consistency.
  4. The next morning, give the oats a good stir. If the consistency is too thick, you can add a splash more kefir or milk to reach your preferred texture. Top with your favorite additions like fresh berries, sliced banana, chopped nuts, or a sprinkle of cinnamon before serving.

Notes

• **Flavor Variations**: Get creative with your toppings! Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract to the base mixture. For toppings, consider a swirl of nut butter, shredded coconut, or a handful of dried fruit.
• **Sweetness**: Adjust the amount of maple syrup or honey based on your personal preference and the natural sweetness of your kefir.
• **Storage**: Leftover Kefir Overnight Oats can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days, making them perfect for meal prepping multiple breakfasts.
